What Is Your Motivation?
Hello Golf Friends
WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION? WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AND PASSION?
2017 was a remarkable year. While I’ve been a professional golf instructor for 18 years, 2017 was my first year of full time instruction; resting solely on my own business to pay my bills. When people ask how I’m doing; I tell them “I still have my head above water and feet above ground”. While I may not be making millions, going to work every day and doing what I love is priceless. I feel I have one of the best office spaces in the world at Heritage Isles Golf and Country Club in Tampa, FL. It is an honor and privilege to do what I do, to meet who I meet, and spread the game that I hold so close to my heart.
When I began PaulMeyerGolf Academy (formerly The Complete Golfer Golf Academy) in late 2015, I had only a few students. Fortunately, there was income coming from my job as a public educator (24 years) through September of 2016. In June of 2016, I decided to pack up my school supplies for good and begin my next adventure. It was a jump to go from full benefits, retirement, steady income to NOTHING; relying just on my own PURPOSE and PASSION to carry me forward.

To be honest, a year ago at this time I was worried. While I was building my client base, building my brand, building my business, the money was INCREDIBLY TIGHT; feeling more like I was making a string of bogies rather than a birdie barrage. Going into a hot, steamy 2017 summer where I thought things would slow down; I was a bit panicked. But I wasn’t quitting. I loved it too much. So with my PURPOSE AND PASSION pushing me forward, I tweaked my business model to bring in more students. I called it my SUMMER SLAM! My focus was on quality instruction and quantity of lessons; to bring in NEW golfers and load my lesson book. To Spread my name and rely on word of mouth. I started a golf instruction Instagram account that today has over 1800 followers (paulmeyergolf).

“Build it and they will come”! By July I was doing 30+ lessons/week and I’ve maintained that every week since. I’m not sure what the “Value of Success” is but I do know one part of success is getting up every day and looking forward to your work. My PURPOSE is to grow the game and bring in new students as well as help current students enjoy the game more. My PASSION is to deliver quality, individualized instruction that fits each student’s learning style and physical capabilities.
My motivation is in my PURPOSE AND PASSION, the love of the game, of meeting new people, and helping them develop their own Purpose and Passion. I can remember very few lessons where my student and I didn’t laugh; didn’t have a casual conversation. Building a rapport with each one of my students is paramount to me. The majority of my friends here in Tampa are all students of mine in some degree. I know ¾ of our regular range rats on a first name basis. Every day I go to Heritage Isles, I feel like I’m walking into my second home.

There are days where I continue to make my bogies! That’s just part of human hood. I accept the fact that every day is not going to go according to plan. Just like I accept the fact I won’t hit every shot perfect on the golf course. But I stick to my PURPOSE AND PASSION; to continue on my journey and look at every day as a new experience; ready to accept the good… and the not so good. Some weeks are good business weeks with new clients; some weeks are slow. I accept that too. I strive to continue to learn about the golf swing; to develop the methods to reach every student I have and look at each one as a unique individual with unique physical and mental characteristics and capabilities whether they are a straight beginner or an advanced or professional player.
My goals and motivation for 2018 are to continue my PURPOSE AND PASSION and to move forward on this remarkable journey; to continue to appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given to do what I do and meet who I meet.
Lastly, I’m a self-help/motivational book reader!!!! I have quotes from books all over the place. My “Office” has a bulletin board covered in quotes. I have 20 books on my bookcase (and over 100 golf books). Here are some “WORDS TO LIVE BY” as you begin your 2018 journey.
You are the author of every next moment. Write your own masterpiece.
If you can’t figure out your purpose, figure out your passion. For your passion will lead you directly to your purpose.
What comes easy won’t last long, and what lasts long won’t come easy.
Don’t start your day with the Broken pieces of yesterday. Every morning we wake up is the first day of the rest of our life.
Your only limit is you.
Some people wish it would happen; Some people want it to happen; But others make it happen.
And of course: “Accept the things you cannot change, have the courage to change the things you can, and have the wisdom to know the difference”

Hoping you continue or find your PURPOSE AND PASSION in 2018!
