5 P's To Success In Golf

5 P's To Success In Golf

I Haven’t been able to write in a while.  The busy season in Florida has been busy!    When I started this venture full time almost two years ago, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  So being busy is a very good thing!

Like most of you, I continue to learn, develop, adapt, and apply what I know about golf.   It’s a continuing process of growth and development.   There is NO PERFECTION in golf.  It’s a process of learning and applying; of practicing and implementing.   Those who stick to the process, show patience, and practice will improve the fastest.  Their improvements will become more permanent.  Those that are RESULT driven are looking too far ahead.  Believe in the process and the result will come.

What Is Your Motivation?

What Is Your Motivation?

WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION?  WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE AND PASSION?

2017 was a remarkable year.  While I’ve been a professional golf instructor for 18 years, 2017 was my first year of full time instruction; resting solely on my own business to pay my bills.  When people ask how I’m doing; I tell them “I still have my head above water and feet above ground”.  While I may not be making millions, going to work every day and doing what I love is priceless.  I feel I have one of the best office spaces in the world at Heritage Isles Golf and Country Club in Tampa, FL.   It is an honor and privilege to do what I do, to meet who I meet, and spread the game that I hold so close to my heart.

Chipping and Pitching

Chipping and Pitching

For many of you, the season is drawing to a close due to wintery weather.  My niece in Wisconsin sent me pics today of snow covered ground and cars.  I never liked winter.  I guess that’s why I now live where I live!!!  I tried to never leave a golf club out of my hands too long when I lived in Packer/Badger land.  I hit the simulators and indoor facilities; used my swing fan; practiced putting and chipping during the winter months.  YOU CAN TOO!  Hopefully, this month’s blog gives you something to think about and work on in your off months or in your continued practice.

Simplify, Simplify, Simplify!

Simplify, Simplify, Simplify!

This summer in Tampa proved to be extremely busy.  I Lost my writing flow.  Then came September rains; a move to a new home; and prep for Irma.  So finally getting back to sharing some thoughts; some golf; some observations…. On golf.

My Favorite Training Aids

My Favorite Training Aids

My son, Jake said to me the other day… “Dad, you should write a blog on your favorite training aids”.  I thought that was a really good idea.  So here it is.  If you follow me on Instagram at paulmeyergolf, you can see the many uses I have for various training aids and how to implement them.

How's Your Tempo?

How's Your Tempo?

I hope this summer has you out playing, practicing, enjoying the beautiful green grass of the golf course!

This month I wanted to talk about tempo; rhythm; fluidity and all the other synonyms for swinging gracefully and easily.   TEMPO ALLOWS OUR BODY TO SWING IN SEQUENCE… it allows the physical parts you work on to fire together in one smooth swinging motion.

From The Range To The Course ... Or Not???

From The Range To The Course ... Or Not???

I remember my springs in Wisconsin…. The snow melts; the days get longer; the fresh spring air and I knew it was golf season!   So I’m happy that all of you are now in golf mode!

If I had a quarter for how many times I’ve heard (or something similar):

  • Paul, I love my practice swing.
  • Paul, Why can’t I apply my practice swing to my real swing?

  • Paul, I hit the ball so great on the range, but then it doesn’t transfer to the course.

  • Paul,  you get me on track in our lessons, but then it goes away on the course

And so on….

Get Set Up To Play Great!

Get Set Up To Play Great!

I rarely talk about positions in the golf swing.  I don’t believe we move the club from Point A to Point B.  I feel we swing the club back and forth through connection, pivot, and momentum/centrifugal force.  I focus on sensations and feelings in my instruction that will allow that to happen more naturally, easily, and fluidly.  If we focus on positions, the swinging action is reduced, it becomes forced, it becomes directed.  The club is meant to be swung, not directed.

Out With The Old and In With The New ... In 2017 What Will You Do?

Out With The Old and In With The New ... In 2017 What Will You Do?

In 2016 I decided to give up a 24 year professional education career and pursue my lifelong dream of golf instruction full time.  While I knew it would be a great challenge to build a business from scratch in Florida… it was time to follow my heart and my gut and put what my brain said in the background.  Like standing over a golf shot and thinking “See, Feel, Do”  that is how I wanted to approach life at 50 years old.

What type of ball should I play?

The Age old (well since 1990's) question is... What type of ball should I play? We all want and desire the optimal combination of control plus distance. We analyze launch angles, angle of Attack, spin rates. We're looking for the "magic egg" in the basket. Over the past 10 years I've played over 20 different kinds of balls.

Why You Should Take A Golf Lesson ... Or Two … Or Three ...

Spring seems to be hitting all areas of the country now and I’m sure my northern climate golf friends are enjoying time back on the course!

“People get nervous about trying new things, yet the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”.  –Albert Einstein
